Find Chinese Medicine Programs in the United States and Canada. If you’re pursuing a professional career in the healing arts, Chinese medicine programs offer prospective students the opportunity to earn a degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine, in addition to certificate and diploma courses.
Comprehensive subject matter is taught in (Master Degree) Chinese medicine programs including human anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, Chinese medical language, acupuncture, herbology, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) fundamentals, and the history of TCM. Additional studies like Tai Chi, Qigong, acupressure/Shiatsu, Tuina, moxibustion, cupping and nutritional counseling are frequently integrated into a number of these Chinese medicine programs. While training varies, most of these degree programs are usually a minimum of two or three years in length, and require certain educational prerequisites prior to enrollment.
If you find herbal medicine appealing, there are several Traditional Chinese medicine programs available to which you can apply. Typical curricula entail Chinese Materia Medica, TCM formulation and herbal prescription, aromatherapy, etiology, pathology, drug and herbal interactions, and nutrition, among other related studies. Depending on the school in which you enroll, herbal medicine courses usually result in a diploma or certification.
Candidates who complete more condensed Chinese medicine programs like Tuina or other Oriental bodywork are eligible for certification or diploma. (Known as “Chinese medical massage,” Tuina is an ancient healing art and specialized massage therapy that focuses on acupoints of the body.)
Overall, Chinese medicine programs focus on the root of imbalance or disharmony of the meridians. (Meridians are “energy channels” of the Chi, or life force.) In some academic programs, Five Element theory is taught; and students are introduced to causal affects of elements like earth and wind. In addition, future practitioners learn vital communication skills, and how to facilitate observation and palpation as part of forming a diagnosis. Furthermore, almost all Chinese medicine programs involve hands-on training as part of any clinical internship.
If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding Chinese medicine programs, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore career school programs near you.

Using needles to adjust bodily functions to optimum levels is the principle behind acupuncture. Both ancient Chinese and modern Western practitioners have used this technique to relieve many sufferers of chronic disease. Needling is a relatively safe, beneficial treatment strategy that can be used to reduce pain, improve healing, and increase general well-being. But exactly how is this procedure done and what sort of benefits can be obtained?
Procedure for Needle Puncture
There are two broad categories of acupuncture practice today, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and medical acupuncture. Both have their merits, so the choice is individual. The decision for most people hinges upon which philosophy appeals more to them and which technique holds the least apprehension.
In TCM, practitioners adhere to the concept of Qi, or energy flow, and the meridians in which they travel. They use longer needles and insert them deeper in order to reach the acupuncture points. Modern science has found little evidence to prove the existence of these energy channels, but this is the technique that has been used effectively for thousands of years.
In medical acupuncture, the practitioners are graduates of western medical schools. Their application of needles is not based on the traditional acupuncture points, but on anatomic data. These acupuncturists use shorter needles and the insertions are shallower. They also tend to use fewer needles and leave them inserted for shorter periods of time. Adherents to TCM feel this is a watered-down version of the real thing. Nevertheless, many patients have felt relief of symptoms through this method.
Conditions for Puncture Application
There is a broad and extensive list of ailments which can be treated with acupuncture. The conditions run the gamut from asthma to constipation, anxiety to weight loss. Most TCM practitioners believe that any health condition results from an imbalance in Qi flow, therefore amenable to needle therapy. Western acupuncturists tend to have a more limited list of indications, the most common of which is undoubtedly control of pain.
Control of pain is the most well researched of all of the indications for acupuncture. There is a definite beneficial effect for a majority of patients using this method. Migraines, premenstrual syndrome, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and neuralgias are but a few examples. The theory behind its effectiveness is also medically accepted and well researched, called the gate-control theory of pain. It states that the needles can stimulate nerves so that they block the impulses from pain triggers.
Expected Puncture Session Result
It is important to emphasize that acupuncture is used only on top of existing medical therapy. At no time should a patient discontinue medication or ignore medical instructions in favor of needle puncture. After undergoing a needle puncture regimen, the primary care physician can make an evaluation with regards to decreasing dependence on other therapies.
A course of acupuncture therapy will last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. This depends upon the complexity of the particular medical condition. Results also vary, so it is important to have a frank discussion with the acupuncturist regarding expected results and their time frame. In general, the patient will begin to feel beneficial effects after three or four session. Certain specific conditions will actually get a little worse before improving so keeping informed is key.
In modern medicine, the use of traditional techniques with proven results has become a widely accepted practice. Acupuncture has proven its worth time and again. Modern practice guidelines make it effective, reproducible, and safe. It is a gift of healing form ancient sages that has the potential to bring relief to millions of people.

Reiki can be a powerful tool for personal growth and healing. The energy of Reiki originates from the ultimate spiritual source. As such, it creates only the best results. Reiki is used to heal the spirit, mind, and body. It is also used to guide one’s life.
Use it to develop your talents. Improve yourself and everything else around you. These are just some of the practical applications of Reiki the moment you choose to be attuned to it.
Learning Reiki’s self-healing program requires practice. You also have to master several techniques. Know that each technique you learn may move you towards your goal or away from it. You have to use the right Reiki strategy all the time to attain self-healing. It is also possible to create a personal Reiki healing system that would benefit you entirely. Better results are expected if you work this way.
Use Reiki for self-treatments by allotting 30 minutes of your time to give treatments for yourself. You can use hand positions or the scanning technique. Focus on the areas that need healing most. You will be guided to those spots accordingly when the session starts. Feel the vibration as the energy goes up from your body. Contemplate your life’s activities while in this process of self-treatment. This way, the healing will have a fuller effect on you. This technique is mostly used to develop healthy attitudes. The procedure would also leave you with many creative ways and ideas on how you can possibly deal with your problems.
It is also possible to heal yourself in the company of others. Try to form a personal healing alliance with other Reiki self-healers to compound the effect of the treatment sessions. By healing yourself and others at the same time, the practice becomes more effective. Find somebody to be your healing partner. Add other healers to the group and convene regularly. Heal each other. In time, all of you would experience complete healing. And that’s primarily due to the support and energy sharing that transpires during each session.
As a group, discuss your needs and the particular areas that have to be healed. Meet every week or at least use distant Reiki to each other. Take every meeting seriously and just focus on its real purpose. Not only that this procedure is quite powerful. It also gives you a deeper meaning Reiki and its healing levels.
Use Reiki to enhance your prayers and affirmations. Repeat your prayer or affirmation to give thanks, especially if the goal that you’ve been hoping for has already been achieved or if healing had already happened. Pray or affirm with conviction everyday. This would help you greatly in your life’s endeavors.
To make sure that self-treatment occurs, go against the issue that you are trying to heal. Then use Reiki as required. The fear of doing something is an example of an issue. To go against it, overcome your fear. And do that by performing the very thing that you fear the most. This way, you can heal purposely and effectively through the energies of Reiki.

An alternative to “so-called” modern methods for the treatment of fertility is an ancient method of healing – acupuncture. Of course, it’s not a catch-all for couples that have been having problems having a baby. For example: Acupuncture treatment for couples with structural issues (i.e. blocked sperm or duct damaged fallopian tubes) are less likely to have success than couples with issues like inconsistent ovulation.
Working Principle of Acupuncture
The interrelationship of exactly how fertility and acupuncture relate is still less than completely clear. However, most acupuncture experts currently believe that acupuncture works by improving overall body functions by increasing blood flow to the genital organs and balancing blood hormone levels. This ability results in enhanced ovarian function in women and in men increased sperm production.
Invisible channels of energy run throughout the body, called chi, according to the traditional concept of Chinese medicine. Also called meridians, if obstructed at any one point, these channels of energy begin to build up in certain regions of the body or organs while other areas no longer get adequate energy to properly function. To alleviate obstructions needles are placed on select spots. Modern medical science is of the opinion that the use of needles helps to stimulate the nervous system and triggers the release of chemicals within the muscles, spinal cord and brain. This results in the body being put into a position to heal itself which is always the best method of healing.
Fertility in Women
Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated that acupuncture is a good complementary form of therapy in women who are undergoing other forms of fertility treatments. One take on the positive relationship acupuncture generates in women is that it relieves the worry and stress they undergo while being treated fertility.
In addition, it’s been found that the success rate for women who are undergoing in-vitro fertilization is higher if the treatment is accompanied with acupuncture treatment. Another positive aspect of has been the ratio of ectopic (out of place) pregnancies and miscarriages has been found to be significantly lower for women who underwent acupuncture treatment.
Higher Rates of Pregnancy and Acupuncture
The causal relationship between fertility and acupuncture has also been studied. One example has been the number of pregnancies that were reported in women who were classified as hopeless by medical doctors but as a last desperate hope in getting pregnant turned to the use of acupuncture needles and actually got pregnant.
These studies have been challenged by the medical establishment who have argued that even without acupuncture such women could have gotten pregnant by using biofeedback (i.e. changing their thought patterns to positively influence their internal systems). While the opinion of the medical community remains divided on the issue of acupuncture and fertility, because it has been proven to be a safe procedure most doctors have no problem in giving their patients the go-ahead to give acupuncture a try.

Many people are familiar with the physical act of acupuncture, the act of inserting needles into the skin for the purpose of relaxation and natural healing. Acupuncture goes much further than needles in the skin. The Chinese used acupuncture to re-align one’s Chi, which is an energy of universal life that is believed to flow through all people. When the Chi is blocked and unable to flow freely, health is affected. Now, researchers are investigating the role of acupuncture for migraine reduction and treatment. Read below for more on how acupuncture for migraine reduction works.
The Studies
Two publications have published studies with strong conclusions on the effectiveness of acupuncture for migraine relief. The Journal of the American Medical Association, or JAMA, published “Acupuncture for Patients with Migraine.” In this study, scientists used 302 patients, most of them women who suffered from migraine headaches. Patients were administered acupuncture, sham acupuncture and a waiting list control. Researchers concluded that sham acupuncture was no less effective than regular acupuncture, though both had much more of an effect on migraines than did the wait list control.
Another study, published by Blackwell Synergy, one hundred sixty women were run through a controlled study examining the effects of acupuncture for migraines versus flunarizine for migraines. Group A was administered acupuncture weekly for 2 months and then once monthly for 4 months. Flunarizine was given to the patients every day for two months and then twenty days out of the month for four months. The conclusion was profound: acupuncture won the contest for the most effective treatment out of the two.
Getting Past The Fear
The first thing to look for when seeking out a professional acupuncturist is to make sure that the acupuncturist is licensed and certified, depending on the state in which you live. Most acupuncturists will walk you through their sterilizing procedures, and most use disposable needles. If you cannot get past the fear of acupuncture needles, the acupuncturist will probably provide alternatives for you. These include herbal methods, magnetic needles and ear cups that can be taken for similar results.
When you go to the acupuncturist, be sure you know what you are seeking treatment for, and have as much medical information as possible. This will help the acupuncturist decide what acupuncture for migraine techniques are right for you.
